Teen and Adult Social Programs

SOCIAL PROGRAMS

All of our Social Programs are for people on the Autism Spectrum who would like to meet others like themselves. It is an opportunity to make new friendships, share similar interests and challenges in their daily lives. Please note that the Social Programs are not intended to teach social skills - Just as one doesn't learn to ride a bicycle in a classroom, one cannot become socially competent without having an opportunity to be included and accepted for who they are.

All of our social groups are supported by screened volunteers. Groups are kept small with 6-12 members with no fee or a minimal one.

TEEN SOCIAL PROGRAMS

It can be especially challenging for a teen with Autism to fit in. During the adolescent years, these teens can feel increasingly alienated, unsure of themselves and lonely. Bad experiences with teasing and bullying can lead the Autistic teen to withdraw completely from once favourite activities and can have a lasting effect on an individual's self-esteem and sense of self worth.

The teen programs are focused primarily on having FUN!

The group shares mutual interests and meaningful social opportunities. This can be a place where autistic teens can feel safe just  being themselves. The result? New friendships and an invaluable feeling of belonging.

ADULT SOCIAL PROGRAMS

For adults with a high degree of independent living skills (e.g. individuals able to meet their own support needs). This group gets together monthly to explore mutual interests both at the Centre and in the community. All activities are decided on by group participants.

SMALL OPTION ADULT RECREATION (SOAR)

For adults on the Spectrum who may need a little more help. Participants will come to the Centre with their own support worker to pursue leisure and recreation opportunities and gain an invaluable opportunity to meet others on the Spectrum.
